Susan Sarandon arrested during New York protest

As she approaches her 80th birthday, actress and activist Susan Sarandon continues her long history of political engagement and civil disobedience. Most recently, on September 24, she was arrested in New York alongside approximately one hundred other protesters. The demonstration was held in opposition to Benjamin Netanyahu during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

Sarandon, a known pacifist and environmentalist, has a decades-long history of arrests related to her activism. Her first arrest occurred in 1982 in New York while protesting the demolition of the Morosco Theatre. Other notable instances include a 1999 protest against police, a 2018 demonstration regarding migration policies, and a 2023 protest concerning fair wages for service workers in New York State.

Beyond her activism, Sarandon is an Academy Award-winning actress, having won Best Actress for ‘Dead Man Walking’. Her career spans several decades, beginning in the early 1970s with films such as ‘War Pigs’ and ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’.
