Rome announces botanical tours and free access to municipal rose garden
Rome is launching several initiatives to highlight its botanical and natural heritage. FareAmbiente, the European Ecological Movement, has announced a project titled “Conoscere Roma attraverso gli alberi monumentali” (Knowing Rome through monumental trees). Between October and December 2026, the project will offer twelve guided tours through historical villas and parks, including Villa Borghese, Villa Doria Pamphilj, and the Appia Antica, to explore the city's botanical, historical, and cultural connections.
Additionally, the municipal rose garden (Roseto Comunale) on the Aventine Hill is offering free admission to visitors until November 8. The garden, which has a history dating back to the 3rd century BC, allows the public to view ancient and modern rose varieties, as well as wild roses. Free guided tours of the garden are also available by reservation through the Department of Environmental Protection.
