Rome municipal botanical heritage initiatives

Overview

Rome has introduced several initiatives to promote its botanical and natural heritage. The municipal rose garden (Roseto Comunale) on the Aventine Hill is offering free admission to the public until November 8, 2026. Visitors can view various rose varieties, including ancient, Tea, and Chinese roses, as well as wild roses. The Rome Capital Garden Service is also providing free guided tours of the garden by reservation.

In conjunction with these efforts, the European Ecological Movement, FareAmbiente, has launched a project titled ‘Conoscere Roma attraverso gli alberi monumentali’ (Knowing Rome through monumental trees). From October to December 2026, this project will conduct twelve guided tours through historical sites such as Villa Borghese, Villa Doria Pamphilj, and the Appia Antica to explore the city’s botanical and cultural connections.
