Alessandro Di Battista reveals brain tumor diagnosis and surgery in Cuba
Former Italian lawmaker Alessandro Di Battista has revealed he underwent emergency surgery for a brain tumor while in Cuba. During a recent television appearance on La7, Di Battista explained that he suffered a sudden health crisis caused by brain edema resulting from the tumor.
He credited Cuban neurosurgeon Marlon Ortiz with performing a highly complex and successful operation that removed most of the tumor, despite the hospital facing severe resource shortages, including lack of electricity and water. Upon returning to Italy, specialists at Rome's Gemelli Hospital confirmed the high quality of the surgical procedure.
Di Battista stated he is now focused on his recovery and upcoming medical treatments, noting that he will temporarily suspend any political candidacy to prioritize his health. He also used the opportunity to comment on the difficult humanitarian and energy conditions in Cuba.
