Rome delivers 54 social housing units at Porto Fluviale RecHouse

Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and city officials have officially handed over the keys to 54 new public residential housing units at the Porto Fluviale RecHouse complex in the Ostiense district. The project involved the transformation of a former military warehouse that had been occupied for approximately two decades.

The urban regeneration project, part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the PINQuA program, cost a total of approximately 16 million euros. This includes roughly 13 million euros from PNRR funds and the remainder from municipal resources. The renovation, carried out by Cobar Spa, converted the historic building into an energy-efficient (class A4) complex, providing modern residences and over 2,400 square meters of public services and open spaces.

The housing has been assigned to families who participated in a special 2024 tender, effectively regularizing the status of those who had lived in the building as unauthorized occupants for years. Officials noted that the project aimed to reintegrate public housing into the heart of Rome while involving the existing community in the transformation of shared spaces.
