Rome high school implements security checks after anonymous shooting threats
Police implemented security measures, including metal detector checks, at the Edoardo Amaldi high school in Rome's Tor Bella Monaca district following anonymous threats of a shooting. The threats, which claimed “89 people will die,” appeared on an Instagram page called “Spotted_amaldi. centrale,” which students use to exchange anonymous confessions and gossip via the Ngl messaging service.
The Rome Police Headquarters stated that the security perimeter was established after the school principal reported a potential risk. Officers from the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office and the Casilino Public Security District conducted searches of students and staff to ensure no weapons were brought onto the premises. Authorities noted that the risk was neutralized and the school day proceeded without critical incidents.
Investigators are currently looking into the origin of the messages. Because the Ngl service allows for complete anonymity, even the page administrator cannot identify the senders. Police are also considering whether the author of the threats is actually a student at the institute, as the link used to send messages can be shared with anyone outside the school community.
