Rome Mayor Gualtieri outlines urban transformation and long-term infrastructure goals

Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri has outlined a long-term vision for the transformation of the Italian capital, focusing on modernization and infrastructure. In recent interviews, Gualtieri highlighted that the city has over 1,200 projects either completed or underway, with 710 already finished. He noted that while the simultaneous increase in construction sites initially caused public inconvenience, citizen perception has shifted positively.

Key priorities for the administration include digital transition, supported by over one billion euros in investment and the introduction of 'Julia,' a virtual municipal assistant. Gualtieri also addressed legal and regulatory challenges, specifically regarding beach concessions on the Roman coast, stating his commitment to upholding the law against powerful lobbies.

Looking toward the future, the Mayor is preparing for the upcoming Jubilee and eyeing long-term milestones such as the year 2033. His urban planning includes the expansion of Metro C, the development of a waste-to-energy plant in Santa Palomba, the revitalization of the Tiber River and Ostia, and the provision of more affordable housing for families and young people. He also suggested that Rome should consider bidding for the 2036 or 2040 Olympic Games.
