Rome Metromare rail line hit by technical fault, service hours extended

A technical failure on the Metromare (Roma‑Lido) line early on Monday caused repeated power cuts and halted trains between Rome and Ostia. Passengers reported long waits, overcrowded platforms and missed connections, with some describing the situation as “traveling like in Bangladesh.” The fault was resolved after about an hour, but services remained delayed and many commuters arrived late to work.

Separately, the regional authorities announced that the Metromare schedule will be extended to 22:30 from the end of July, thanks to the introduction of a twelfth train purchased for €5 million. The move aims to eventually restore a midnight service that was curtailed for years due to construction work, cable conflicts with Metro B and archaeological discoveries. The extension follows a troubled €482 million procurement that collapsed, leading to a legal dispute and a takeover of the original contractor by Ferrovie dello Stato.
