Rome man arrested for arson and stalking ex-partner
A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Rome after setting fire to a shop in the Fleming district where his former partner worked. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of a night near mid-August, destroyed the commercial premises and the apartment located above it.
Investigators from the XV District Ponte Milvio, coordinated by the Rome Prosecutor's Office, determined that the arson followed a prolonged escalation of violence, threats, and stalking directed at the victim. The suspect had previously been ordered to stay away from his former partner and was required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. Authorities believe he removed the device during the timeframe in which the fire was set.
A judge has ordered the man to be held in pretrial detention at the Regina Coeli prison.
