Around 300 people, including about 100 children from more than 20 countries, have been forced to camp on the pavement near Rome’s Termini station after being evicted from the seven‑storey former office block known as Spin Time. The eviction followed a small fire on July 29, after which police evacuated the building and magistrates placed it under judicial seizure, declaring it unfit for habitation.

Residents are now allowed back one at a time, escorted by police, only to collect documents and essentials. A severe heatwave has pushed temperatures in Rome above 40 °C (104 °F). Volunteers deliver food, water, mattresses and clothing, and an open‑air cinema provides evening entertainment for the children. On August 6, a two‑year‑old girl fainted in the arms of a Red Cross nurse.

The camp is organized by long‑time resident Ana Bizdoaca and Maria Cabrera, who have lived in the building for years and now help coordinate the makeshift settlement.
