Rome to implement 5G connectivity across Metro C subway lines

Rome is set to eliminate digital blackouts within its subway system through the implementation of 5G connectivity. By next autumn, the Metro C line, stretching from Pantano to the Colosseum, will be covered by a network capable of providing continuous connection even in deep tunnels.

The project is part of the 'Roma5G' plan, a €97.7 million investment that includes €20 million from the Rome City Council. To overcome the challenges of concrete and rock, the infrastructure utilizes a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) consisting of micro-transmitters placed throughout the tunnels.

In addition to the 5G rollout, over 250 kilometers of new fiber optic cables will be laid along 61 kilometers of tracks, covering lines A, B, and B1. This infrastructure is intended to support not only passenger connectivity but also urban sensors and video surveillance systems.
