Campli faces debt crisis as Rome implements new urban and mobility reforms
The municipality of Campli is facing a severe financial crisis, owing over 207,000 euros to the Unione dei Comuni Monti della Laga. This debt, spanning 2024 to 2026, has halted essential payments for disability services. The town's financial instability is further evidenced by a zero cash balance, 1.2 million euros in unreturned treasury advances, and over one million euros in unpaid invoices to essential service providers.
In Rome, significant urban and mobility changes are underway. The city has introduced new technical regulations for the General Regulatory Plan, removing the 60-room limit for hotels in the historic center to encourage large-scale hospitality investments. While welcomed by hotel associations, these changes face opposition from short-term rental operators.
Additionally, Rome is launching its new Biciplan to expand the cycling network and celebrating European Mobility Week with over 100 events. Amidst these developments, Mayor Roberto Gualtieri has criticized the national government, calling for increased resources for public housing—aiming for one million units—and better funding for urban transport and municipal autonomy.
