Rome urban development: New Flaminio stadium project and EUR tower renovations
Rome is undergoing significant urban transformations involving major infrastructure and renovation projects. A key development is the proposed Flaminio stadium project by SS Lazio, which involves an estimated investment of approximately 437.5 million euros. Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri expressed optimism regarding the project, stating he hopes to grant it public interest status by the end of the year. This designation is a critical step for subsequent authorization phases. The club is working to reconcile the design with heritage constraints, ensuring the historic peninsula remains visible and the new structure does not obstruct the Auditorium or the Palazzetto dello Sport.
In another major urban update, the Ligini towers in the EUR district have been inaugurated following a 250 million euro investment by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. These 17-story rationalist buildings, which had remained vacant for nearly twenty years, have been successfully recovered. Additionally, Sport e Salute has presented a 150 million euro plan to renovate the Stadio Olimpico. These projects stand in contrast to long-standing unfinished works in the city, such as the abandoned Flaminio stadium and the incomplete EUR aquarium.
