Romovis disputes ANSVSA plan for livestock export unblocking

The National Federation of Sheep and Goat Breeders, Romovis, has raised formal objections to a proposed plan by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) aimed at unblocking livestock exports from Romania.

Romovis representatives criticized the consultation process, alleging that the ANSVSA president claimed the plan was under discussion with industry associations when, in fact, a detailed presentation was not scheduled until a later date. The federation also reported that they were provided with the document only five minutes before a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture, making a serious technical and legal analysis impossible.

Breeders have expressed severe concerns regarding the proposed quarantine measures intended to address small ruminant disease and sheep pox. The plan includes requirements for farmers to implement strict quarantine protocols on their own farms, such as employing separate staff and using dedicated machinery for isolated animals. Critics argue these draconian measures, including a 30-day quarantine for animals heading to slaughter at the farmers' expense, could drive producers into bankruptcy. In response to the crisis and the proposed measures, breeders have announced plans for mass protests on September 15.
