Rondônia and Portugal brace for extreme heat this week

The Brazilian state of Rondônia is expected to see temperatures rise to 36 °C in several municipalities, including Porto Velho, Ariquemes, Jaru and Ji‑Paraná, over the next few days, according to the Censipam forecast.

In Portugal, the Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) warned of a prolonged hot and dry spell lasting at least a week, with maximum temperatures projected between 35 °C and 44 °C in the interior, especially the Tejo Valley and Alentejo. Minimum night‑time temperatures are forecast to stay above 20 °C, with some areas not dropping below 24 °C. The agency placed the districts of Beja, Évora, Portalegre and Castelo Branco under orange heat alerts, later extending the warning to several other districts across the country.
