Brazil Senate debates highlight regional political divisions

Political debates for the Senate in Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte have highlighted key campaign strategies and ideological divisions.

In Pernambuco, Marília Arraes (PDT) was the sole female candidate in a debate organized by G1 Pernambuco/TV Globo. She focused her platform on healthcare, climate change, and combating violence against women, proposing 24-hour operations for women's police stations. Meanwhile, Túlio Gadêlha positioned himself as a political bridge-builder, acting as an interlocutor to align different political sectors with Governor Raquel Lyra's administration.

In Rio Grande do Norte, a debate hosted by Grupo Dial Natal showcased sharp polarization. Coronel Hélio (PL) presented himself as the only right-wing candidate, criticizing the current state administration and federal PT policies. His opponents, including Samanda de Lula (PT), Rafael Motta (PDT), and Sonia Godeiro (PSOL), defended democratic institutions and the current state leadership. Three candidates—Styvenson Valentim, Zenaide Maia, and Tércio Tinoco—did not attend the event.
