Rondonópolis expands urban afforestation via environmental compensation

Rondonópolis is expanding its urban afforestation efforts through a project managed by the Municipal Secretariat of Environment, Agriculture, and Livestock (Semmaap). The initiative utilizes resources from environmental compensation provided by companies to purchase tree seedlings, planting approximately 2,500 units per month along major and secondary streets.

In addition to municipal efforts, the ‘Muda Sua Vida’ project—a partnership between TV Centro América, Sell Agro, and the local government—is facilitating the distribution of 6,000 seedlings to the community. The program aims to mitigate the effects of global warming, such as heat islands and air pollution, by increasing shade and carbon absorption in urban areas.
