Netanyahu warns of pre-election attacks and files defamation suits

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a warning that there are indications of potential attacks by enemies ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 27. Speaking from the Tel Nof Air Force base, Netanyahu asserted that Israel's military capability can reach targets anywhere and at any time, vowing not to abandon military achievements in Gaza or Lebanon.

The announcement has intensified domestic political tensions. Opposition leader Yair Lapid criticized the Prime Minister, accusing him of using security threats as election propaganda to incite fear. Lapid has demanded urgent security briefings to verify the legitimacy of these threats and ensure the elections can proceed safely.

Simultaneously, Netanyahu is engaged in legal battles regarding the October 7 attacks. He has filed defamation lawsuits against several media outlets and journalists, seeking approximately 2.6 million shekels in damages, following reports that he was warned of the attack by officials from the UAE and Egypt. Netanyahu has denied receiving such warnings. Furthermore, former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar announced intentions to sue Netanyahu for defamation, accusing the Prime Minister of a campaign to shift blame for the security failures onto intelligence officials.
