Roraima, Brazil declared emergency as floods prompt federal aid

The Brazilian federal government officially recognized a state of emergency in the northern Roraima municipalities of Amajari and Rorainópolis following intense rainfall. The decree, issued via Portaria no 2.014 on 18 June 2026, enables the local authorities to request federal disaster‑relief funds for civil‑defence measures, assistance to affected residents, restoration of essential services and reconstruction of damaged areas.

In a related step, the government allocated R$ 2.4 million to the state of Roraima for emergency response and recovery actions in twelve of the state's fifteen municipalities. The resources must be spent within 180 days, with a requirement to publicize restoration works and submit an accounting report within 30 days after completion.

Both measures aim to support the municipalities in addressing the flooding impacts and to streamline the flow of federal assistance for the affected population.
