Roraima Leads Brazil's Retail Surge in June, Stone Index Shows

The Stone Retail Index reported that Brazil's retail sector grew in June, with the state of Roraima posting the strongest year‑on‑year increase of 13.2%. Other northern states also posted double‑digit gains, and every region recorded growth compared with the same month a year earlier. Economists said the data signals a broad recovery in consumer activity, especially in the North, while noting variations in income and credit access across states.

Hypermarkets and related food‑and‑beverage retailers saw sales volumes rise 7.4% in June, the second‑best performance among eight retail segments tracked by the index. The surge was linked to higher consumption during the World Cup, boosting purchases for events and gatherings. Other segments such as construction materials and furniture also posted modest gains, while books, fuel and clothing saw declines.
