Morena implements strict ethical filters for 2027 candidates
As the 2027 electoral cycle approaches, Morena leadership is implementing strict internal controls and ethical filters for potential candidates. Ariadna Montiel, the party's national president, warned that winning internal surveys will not guarantee a candidacy for individuals with “unconfessable links,” questionable pasts, or outstanding legal issues. She emphasized that the party will not allow representatives who could jeopardize the movement's viability.
During a plenary meeting of Morena deputies, Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez also addressed the party, urging members to prioritize national stability and the movement's unity over personal ambitions or individual calculations. She stressed that no political position is worth dividing the movement and called for continued support of President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration.
The internal political landscape is also seeing tension between parties. Luisa María Alcalde, Federal Executive Legal Counsel, defended the current administration against criticisms from the PAN, citing improvements in poverty reduction and security. Meanwhile, internal competition is intensifying as various profiles emerge for governorships and legislative roles across several Mexican states.
