Spain's PSOE begins municipal primary process for 2027 elections

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) has launched its internal primary process to select candidates for the 2027 municipal elections in various municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants. In Andalusia, several cities including Huelva, Córdoba, and Almería are seeing multiple aspirants, while candidates like Antonio Muñoz in Seville are expected to run without direct opposition.

Individual political shifts are occurring across several regions. In Alcázar de San Juan, Mayor Rosa Melchor announced she will not seek reelection in 2027, marking the end of a twelve-year tenure. Meanwhile, several other local leaders have officially entered the race, including Guillermo Hita in Arganda del Rey, Raquel Ruz in Granada, Elena López Bonet and Vicent Roselló in Ibiza, Esteban Martínez in Calahorra, and Concha Baños in Badajoz.

In other areas, the party is adopting different strategies. In El Ejido, the PSOE will bypass primaries in favor of a direct proposal from the Provincial Executive due to the current interim status of the local group. In Navarra, the PSN has initiated a 'listening process' to build its electoral program rather than focusing immediately on party symbols.
