Rosario Livatino: Commemorations announced for beatified Sicilian magistrate
Commemorative events and a new publication are honoring Rosario Livatino, the Sicilian magistrate beatified by the Catholic Church. Livatino was killed on May 21, 1990, by the Stidda mafia organization while serving in Agrigento.
An art exhibition titled ‘Fede e Giustizia’ (Faith and Justice) will be held at the Galleria ‘La Pigna’ in Rome from September 4 to 15, 2026. This exhibition serves as a precursor to the second edition of the Beato Rosario Livatino European Justice Prize, scheduled for October 29, 2026.
Additionally, a new book titled ‘Rosario Livatino. Tra Magistratura e fede operosa’ by Luigi D’Angelo will be presented on September 3, 2026, at the Biblioteca Lucchesiana in Agrigento. D’Angelo, a magistrate who worked alongside Livatino for twelve years, provides a personal account of Livatino’s professional methods and his life, covering his upbringing, education, and his vocation to the judiciary.
