Rose care: why heavy pruning in October may be counterproductive

As autumn approaches, gardeners are cautioned against heavy pruning of rose bushes in October. While long branches or wilting flowers may suggest a need for maintenance, aggressive cutting during this period can disrupt the plant's natural transition to winter dormancy.

In regions where temperatures drop quickly, heavy pruning can stimulate new growth. These young shoots are highly vulnerable to damage from sudden frosts. For most reblooming varieties, it is generally recommended to delay major pruning until late winter when the risk of intense frost decreases.
