Rosemary Koech, KCB Bank Head of Data Protection, dies in Ngong

Rosemary Kimwatu Koech, the Head of Data Protection at KCB Bank Group, passed away at her home in Ngong on Friday morning. While her family has not yet released an official statement regarding the cause of death, officials have indicated a suspicion of suicide, a matter that is currently under investigation.

Koech was a prominent figure within Kenya’s technology, fintech, legal, and data protection sectors. Her career spanned nearly two decades, during which she held significant roles at Safaricom PLC as a Public Policy Manager and at various fintech firms including WayaWaya and MODE. She joined KCB Bank Group in June 2022 and was promoted to Head of Data Protection in June 2023.

In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Koech was active in the broader digital rights community, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet).
