Rosemary Kimwatu Koech, the Head of Data Protection at KCB Bank Group, passed away at her home in Ngong on August 21, 2026. An autopsy confirmed the 40-year-old died by suicide. Investigations indicated Koech faced significant marital and financial distress, with reports of an abusive marriage and debt incurred from financing her husband’s lifestyle.

A legal dispute emerged regarding her burial arrangements. Her husband, Kevin Migwe Kimwatu, sought to inter her at his ancestral home in Matasia, Ngong, while her parents and sister intended for her to be buried in Kericho County. The conflict also involved KCB Bank Kenya, which the husband claimed interfered by instructing the funeral home to release the body to the deceased’s sister and son based on internal employment records.

On August 28, a Nairobi court issued interim orders to halt the burial, directing that her remains stay at Lee Funeral Home and prohibiting arrangements without the husband’s involvement. However, the burial proceeded at night on August 25 at the family home in Chepseon village, Kericho County.

On August 31, Kimwatu informed the court that he would withdraw his legal case against his in-laws and would not seek the exhumation of his wife’s body. His lawyer stated the decision was an effort toward family reconciliation, and Kimwatu requested permission to visit the gravesite with his children.
