Rostec develops mobile version of Citadel anti-aircraft system
Russian state corporation Rostec has developed a mobile configuration of its Citadel (ZAK-30) air defense artillery system. The new version integrates the combat module, radar, and optical detection systems onto a vehicle chassis to allow for faster relocation to protect various sites from aerial threats.
The Citadel system utilizes 30mm automatic guns and specialized shrapnel-filled projectiles with remotely controlled fuses. This technology is designed to engage small, maneuverable drones and cruise missiles by creating a cloud of fragments near the target rather than relying solely on direct hits. Rostec claims the system uses significantly less ammunition than standard anti-aircraft weapons due to its fire-control system and programmable airburst munitions.
While Rostec states the system has demonstrated effectiveness in combat against drones and cruise missiles, the company has not released independently verified performance data. Specific details regarding the vehicle chassis type, deployment timeline, and production status have not been disclosed.
