Ukrainian drone strikes kill two and injure 17 in Russia's Rostov and Belgorod
Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian southern cities of Rostov‑on‑Don, Belgorod and the port town of Taganrog on the night of 27 July 2026. In Rostov‑on‑Don a married couple was killed; five others were wounded, two of them critically, and apartment blocks, warehouses and a homeless shelter were damaged. Belgorod saw 12 civilians injured, including two children, after drones hit residential areas, set cars ablaze and caused fires in a multi‑storey block.
Regional governor Yuri Slyusar said Russian air‑defence forces shot down around 50 Ukrainian drones over the Rostov region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later said his forces also struck a Russian export terminal in the Rostov area and damaged an unnamed production facility in Taganrog. Both Russian and Ukrainian officials claim they do not deliberately target civilians.
Overall, the attacks wounded 17 people across the three locations and caused widespread fires and structural damage to civilian infrastructure.
