Rotterdam festivals attract tens of thousands as Circusstad grows and Bevrijdingsfestival reshapes entry
The thirteenth Circusstad Festival in Rotterdam reported a record attendance of around 30,000 visitors, noting increased numbers of locals, out‑of‑town guests, and international circus professionals. Organisers highlighted growth across audience demographics, youth engagement, and professional networking, with events ranging from high‑wire performances to workshops for adults and children.
After overcrowding issues at last year’s Bevrijdingsfestival, organisers have shifted the main entrance to Parklaan to improve flow and safety. The festival can accommodate 25,000 attendees at once and features a varied lineup including The Bird Experience, Jett Rebel with a full orchestra, Paul Elstak, and DJ La Fuente. The changes aim to prevent long queues and gate‑breaching incidents experienced previously.
