Dutch heatwave forces festival adaptations and cancellations

A prolonged heatwave swept the Netherlands, bringing temperatures above 30 °C and occasional thunderstorms. Organisers of several festivals responded with on‑the‑spot measures. The Sestival in Dalfsen moved its dance programme indoors and added extra water stations, while the Kom over de Brug Festival in Oldambt kept its programme running despite the heat.

The Farm & Country Fair near the German border postponed its opening day but continued on Saturday, even hosting the region’s first wedding at a rural festival. Meanwhile, the Leiden Health Festival proceeded in a cooled city hall, offering smoothie stations, an ice‑bath and interactive health displays.

Authorities advised cancellations of a number of outdoor events in the Rotterdam‑Rijnmond region, citing pressure on ambulance services and hospital capacity. Event organisers expressed disappointment but accepted the safety rationale.
