Rotterdam's Klassiek in het Park offers free open‑air classical concerts

The Klassiek in het Park festival took place in the park beside the Euromast in Rotterdam on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August. The free open‑air event featured a revamped programme that combined symphonic concerts, chamber music, live tango and an open stage for amateur musicians, encouraging audience participation and dancing.

Sinfonia Rotterdam performed under conductor Conrad van Alphen, presenting works such as a Rossini overture and Handel’s *Music for the Royal Fireworks*. Programme director Celia Garcia Garcia said the aim was to show that classical music belongs “right in society, not only in the concert hall.” The festival also highlighted young talent, with prize‑winning soloists and ensembles performing across multiple stages.

Visitors could enjoy food and drink stalls, picnics and a dance floor where the public could join live tango and ballroom performances.
