Open‑air classical concerts in the Netherlands

Overview

In August 2026 several Dutch towns staged free open‑air classical music events. On 14 August Roermond hosted the fourth Roerdeltaconcert on the Roerkade, featuring the Heritage Sinfonietta under Martijn Pepels and soloists Morschi Franz, Magtel de Laat, Huub Claessens and Mara Guseynova. High demand meant boat‑based seating was no longer available. Later in the month, Rotterdam’s Klassiek in het Park festival took place on 29–30 August beside the Euromast, offering a mixed programme of symphonic works, chamber music, live tango and an open stage for amateurs. Sinfonia Rotterdam performed under Conrad van Alphen, and the event emphasized that classical music belongs “right in society, not only in the concert hall.” Both concerts aimed to attract broad audiences with a festive, accessible atmosphere, combining familiar repertoire with contemporary pieces and encouraging public participation.
