Roxana Guzmán’s funeral held; eight suspects charged in her murder

A funeral for journalist Roxana Guzmán was held on Tuesday in Nanchital, Veracruz, where mourners played upbeat music and applauded. Her mother, Rubicelia Ramírez, asked for “música alegre” saying, “Quiero que le toquen música alegre, porque ella siempre fue alegre,” and later declared, “Roxana vive… Te amamos con todo el corazón, hija.” The ceremony mixed traditional corridos with applause as the community paid tribute.

The state prosecutor’s office later announced that a judge linked eight men to the June 2 homicide and formally charged them, confirming sufficient evidence for continued detention. The suspects—identified by aliases such as “Delta 1,” “Delta 7,” and “La Hiena”—remain in preventive custody while the investigation proceeds.
