Royal Canadian Legion launches National Poppy Campaign
The Royal Canadian Legion has launched its National Poppy Campaign, an annual initiative to raise funds for veterans and their families. This year, the organization is introducing new ways to facilitate donations, including a partnership with Amazon Canada that allows supporters to have poppies delivered directly to their homes. This digital expansion aims to increase accessibility for residents in areas without local Legion branches.
Donations to the Poppy Fund, which typically raises close to $20 million annually, are used to provide emergency assistance for essential needs such as food, heating, clothing, and prescription medication. The funds also support housing, accessibility improvements, and programs designed to help veterans transition to civilian life while managing physical injuries, financial uncertainty, or mental health challenges like PTSD.
Local branches, such as Meaford Branch 32, contribute a portion of their proceeds to veteran-support initiatives through Ontario Command. The campaign will culminate in the National Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11, which will be streamed live on the Legion’s Facebook page.
