Royal Caribbean cruise ship diverted to Canada due to severe weather
The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Vision of the Seas was forced to divert its course due to severe weather off the US East Coast. After departing from Baltimore, Maryland, on October 17, the vessel was originally scheduled to stop at the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda.
Instead, the ship was rerouted to Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada, where it docked on the night of October 19. Due to extreme winds and high seas, passengers were unable to disembark the ship.
To address passenger frustration, Royal Caribbean provided compensation packages. These included onboard credits ranging from $200 for interior and outside cabins to $600 for suite guests, as well as a voucher for 50 percent of the cruise fare toward a future trip.
