Royal Caribbean reroutes cruise ship to Canada instead of Bahamas

More than 5,000 passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas experienced a significant travel disruption when their planned Caribbean cruise was rerouted to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Originally scheduled to depart from New Jersey on October 18 with stops in Florida and the Bahamas, the itinerary was changed just twelve hours before boarding due to a severe storm system along the US East Coast.

The sudden shift from tropical temperatures of over 25 degrees Celsius to the chilly 7–12 degree weather of Atlantic Canada caused widespread frustration among travelers, many of whom had packed only summer attire. US actress Mikayla Iverson publicly expressed her anger on Instagram, noting that her family lacked appropriate clothing for the Canadian climate.

While some passengers expressed disappointment—particularly those who had traveled long distances to reach the departure port—others attempted to make the best of the situation by exploring Halifax. To address the dissatisfaction, Royal Caribbean offered compensation, including partial refunds, travel vouchers, and onboard credits ranging from $200 to $600 per cabin.
