Royal College of Paediatrics warns of vaping health risks in children

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) has released a review of 81 studies linking vaping to various health harms in children and young people. Published in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood, the review identifies associations between vaping and respiratory issues such as wheezing and coughing, as well as poor oral health, sleep disturbances, mental health problems, and eye symptoms.

Researchers also noted evidence of harm to infants whose mothers vaped during pregnancy, citing risks such as lower motor maturity and abnormal reflexes. Furthermore, the review suggests that childhood vaping is a predictor for subsequent cigarette smoking and nicotine dependence.

The RCPCH is calling on the UK government to strengthen existing proposals to make vaping less attractive to minors. Suggested measures include stricter limits on available flavors and more rigorous regulations regarding the packaging and display of e-cigarette products.
