Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2026 Opens with ‘A Call to Gather’

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo opened its 2026 season on 7 August with a preview performance that saw more than 8,600 spectators rise to their feet on the Castle Esplanade. The show, now in its 76th year, runs nightly until 29 August under the theme “A Call to Gather,” inspired by the 1927 bronze memorial to Scottish soldiers of the First World War.

Over 800 performers from the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, New Zealand and Qatar take part, including the German Army Band Koblenz, New Zealand Army Band, Qatar Police Academy Band and the United States Army Field Band. The British Army provides the core massed pipes and drums, while the Royal Air Force holds the lead service for 2026. Edinburgh’s Lord Provost, Duncan McGlynn, performed the salute‑taking role for his final Tattoo in office.

The event showcases military music and cultural exchange, drawing international bands and audiences to one of the world’s most iconic stages beneath Edinburgh Castle.
