Royal Society of Canada announces 2026 class of fellows

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) has announced its 2026 class of fellows, recognizing several scholars for exceptional contributions across various disciplines.

Meng Qinghu, Chief Scientist at Yuanhua Intelligent Technology and professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology, has been elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Science. His recognition stems from over thirty years of research in robotics and intelligent systems, specifically in medical surgical and nursing robots. His work includes the development of orthopedic surgical robots that have been utilized in over 5,000 procedures.

Additionally, four professors from the University of Victoria were elected to the RSC. The honorees include Zhongping Chen for his research on the Chinese diaspora, astrophysicist Sara Ellison for her work on galaxy evolution, Val Napoleon for her contributions to Indigenous law, and Charlotte Schallié for her multidisciplinary research into Holocaust education and memory studies.
