RTV Slovenija faces financial crisis and leadership disputes

RTV Slovenija is currently facing a severe financial and liquidity crisis. The public broadcaster is reportedly borrowing from the state treasury to cover payroll, with debts reaching millions of euros. The institution's management, led by President Natalija Gorščak, has requested approximately 15 million euros from the state budget for programs and music production, though critics argue these funds are being used to cover labor costs.

The broadcaster's financial structure is heavily burdened by personnel expenses, which account for approximately 64% of total expenditures, totaling over 100 million euros annually. High salaries within the organization have also drawn scrutiny.

Simultaneously, the institution is embroiled in a political and legal conflict. The Constitutional Court recently upheld the government's ability to restructure the broadcaster's leadership and councils, a move described by some as a necessary "depoliticization" and by others as a politically motivated purge. This follows the abrupt termination of mandates for various RTV boards to facilitate immediate structural changes.
