RTVE workers protest news outsourcing and editorial interference
Workers at the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE have organized protests and demonstrations at their workplaces to denounce the outsourcing of news information and alleged editorial interference. The Consejo de Informativos (CDI) of TVE called for staff to gather at work centers and to withdraw their signatures from news pieces as a sign of protest.
The dispute centers on an incident involving the Telediario 1 news program, where the CDI claims management attempted to prevent the broadcast of information regarding an interview with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. While management apologized for the manner in which the situation was handled, the CDI continues to protest against a lack of resources, personnel shortages, and perceived interference in editorial content.
In response, the Presidency of RTVE has rejected accusations of ideological censorship, stating they lack factual basis. The corporation expressed absolute support for the management and the Director of News Content, Maribel Sánchez-Maroto, asserting that editorial supervision follows established quality and methodology standards. Management clarified that their intervention was intended to ensure a prior assessment of certain references rather than to hide information.
