RTVE editorial and production controversy

Controversy has emerged at the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE regarding the production of an interview with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The Consejo de Informativos de TVE (CDI) criticized the use of an external production company for the interview, calling it an ‘unprecedented fact of extreme gravity’ and noting it violates the RTVE Framework Mandate, which requires institutional and informative production to be 100% internally produced.

Following these reports, RTVE workers organized protests and demonstrations to denounce the outsourcing of news and alleged editorial interference. The CDI claimed management attempted to block information related to the Prime Minister’s interview during the Telediario 1 news program. While management apologized for how the situation was handled, the CDI continues to protest against personnel shortages and perceived interference.

The Presidency of RTVE has rejected accusations of ideological censorship, stating they lack factual basis. Management asserted that their actions were intended to ensure a prior assessment of certain references rather than to hide information, maintaining that editorial supervision follows established standards.
