Mexico's INE orders PRI leader to delete posts, opposition calls censorship
The Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) voted unanimously to order PRI national president Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas to remove nine of his social‑media publications that used terms such as “narcogobierno”, “narcopartido”, “narcopolíticos”, “narcodictadura”, “cártel de Morena” and “narcopropagandista”. Opposition parties – the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the National Action Party (PAN) – say the measure is part of a broader effort by the ruling Morena government to control online discourse through the proposed “Lineamientos Generales para la Protección de los Derechos de las Audiencias”. They label the draft a “law mordaza” that would limit freedom of expression ahead of the 2027 elections. PAN leader Jorge Romero Herrera warned that such regulation would let the government decide what can be published and remove critical content, while PRI deputy Rubén Moreira Valdez warned that censorship could later affect all citizens. The INE justified its order on the basis that the disputed terms could constitute false criminal accusations.
