Warsaw Marathon sets Polish record with record participation
The 48th Warsaw Marathon made history as the largest marathon held in Poland, with 11,180 participants starting the race and 10,830 reaching the finish line. Hungarian runner Lili Anna Vindics-Tóth won the women's category with a time of 2:24:48, setting both a course record and a new national record for Hungary.
The event caused significant traffic disruptions across seven districts in Warsaw, including Śródmieście, Praga, Wola, and Bemowo. Major roads and bridges, such as Most Poniatowskiego and Aleja Jerozolimskie, faced closures, affecting public transport and private vehicles throughout the weekend.
In other running news, Elżbieta Glinka set a new Polish half-marathon record in Gdańsk with a time of 1:08:47, improving the previous record by 31 seconds. Additionally, the Opole Half Marathon is scheduled to take place, featuring the III Polish Energy Workers Half Marathon Championship.
