Rural development initiatives launch in Galicia and Somiedo

The Juana de Vega Foundation has launched the 15th edition of its Agrifood Business Support Program, aimed at revitalizing rural areas in Galicia. A key addition for 2027 is the GreenHub Verín-Monteval, a territorial itinerary designed to boost business projects in southern Ourense, specifically targeting areas affected by previous wildfires.

The program supports entrepreneurs and established businesses in sectors including agrifood production, forestry, bioeconomy, and fishing. It offers two tracks: 'Entrepreneurship' for new business creation and succession planning, and 'Growth and Consolidation' for existing micro and small enterprises seeking assistance with market analysis, financing, and marketing.

In a separate regional development initiative, the Rey Silo eco-cheese dairy project is undergoing environmental assessment in Somiedo. The proposal involves establishing an artisanal cheese facility within the Somiedo Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve. The plan includes constructing a semi-underground building and rehabilitating five traditional 'teitos' (stone huts) to serve as production, storage, and interpretation centers, utilizing milk from local extensive livestock farming.
