Russia accused of expanding North Korean missile deployment and hybrid attacks in Europe

Ukraine's military intelligence warns that Russia may be preparing to deploy a North Korean missile unit to western Russia. This unit could potentially include six launchers and 120 ballistic missiles, marking a significant expansion of military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang. Analysts note that ballistic missiles are particularly difficult to intercept, posing a heightened threat to Ukrainian infrastructure and cities, especially as air defense shortages persist.

In a separate development involving hybrid warfare, Germany has officially attributed three drone attacks at Leipzig/Halle Airport in August 2026 to Russia. The airport serves as a critical logistics hub for NATO and military transport to Ukraine. In response, German authorities have closed the Russian House in Berlin and the Russian consulate in Bonn, while strengthening border controls. European Union leadership has condemned the incidents, with Kaja Kallas describing them as ‘state-sponsored terrorism.’ Russia has denied any involvement, labeling the accusations a provocation.
