Russia accuses Ukraine of domestic repression at UN Security Council

Russia’s UN envoy, Vassily Nebenzia, accused Ukraine of transforming into a ‘Zelensky concentration camp’ during a UN Security Council meeting marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. Nebenzia claimed that with Western assistance, the Ukrainian government has suppressed domestic dissent and is increasingly engaging in ‘outright terror’ against Russian civilians.

The Russian diplomat alleged that opposition in Ukraine is prohibited, with those voicing alternative views being imprisoned without due process or physically eliminated. He specifically cited the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the suppression of the Russian language as evidence of the government’s actions.

Nebenzia further argued that Kyiv is using Western-supplied weapons to target Russian residential areas and civilian infrastructure in an attempt to reverse unfavorable battlefield conditions. The meeting was convened by several European members of the Security Council, including Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom, who reaffirmed their military and political support for Ukraine.
