Russia addresses Japan tensions and Ukraine peace at Eastern Economic Forum

At the 11th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russian leadership addressed ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Ukraine, Japan, and Germany.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mariya Zaharova criticized Japan for its stance on the Kuril Islands, asserting that Russian sovereignty over the territory is indisputable under the UN Charter. Zaharova also warned against provocative military exercises involving the US, Japan, and Australia, specifically noting that Russia will take necessary measures regarding the deployment of American-made Typhon missile systems near its borders.

President Vladimir Putin stated that a resolution to the Ukraine crisis must be reached between Russia and Ukraine, expressing openness to restoring full-format relations with the United States once a settlement is achieved. Additionally, Putin commented on diplomatic friction with Germany, noting that the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn by German authorities has forced the Berlin Embassy to handle visa and notary services.
