Ukraine endures fresh Russian strikes killing eight as G7 agrees new energy sanctions

Russian air attacks on Ukrainian cities killed at least eight people and injured dozens. In Kyiv, four people died and more than 23 were wounded after drones and rockets sparked fires that left over 140,000 residents without electricity. In Kharkiv, five rescuers were killed while trying to extinguish a blaze, with five others injured. A drone strike in the Dnipropetrovsk region also killed a mother and her son and injured two others.

At the same time, leaders of the Group of Seven meeting in Evian, France, agreed on additional energy sanctions to increase pressure on Russia. The United States said it could soon restore oil sanctions, and President Donald Trump reiterated that Russia must negotiate an end to the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted the need to strengthen air defence, while the G7 summit aims to coordinate further measures against Moscow.
