Lavrov Blames US for Failure of Alaska Agreements on Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the commitments reached at the August 2025 Anchorage summit – where President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin agreed on steps to end the war in Ukraine – have not been fulfilled. He told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila that "we probably need to understand who exactly failed" and accused Washington of not ensuring Kyiv's compliance.

Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s willingness to pursue a political‑diplomatic settlement of the conflict and warned against further arming the Kyiv regime. He also noted that the Russian side had honoured the obligations set by President Vladimir Putin in June 2024, while the United States had changed its position after the Alaska talks. The remarks came amid broader discussions at the ASEAN summit about regional security and the war in Ukraine.
